Chapters 6-9, Matza (2010) Health Science for Teachers

 

The exams for Health Science 411B (Matza) (Health Science for Secondary Teachers) class will consist of objective and essay type questions. For exams 1 and 2 please provide Scantron 886E  (100 questions and essay page attached). The Final Exam requires the standard Scantron 882. These forms are available in the bookstore. Please remember to write each answer on the pages provided. Do not attach any pages, bluebooks, etc. You may write in essay format, or prepare a list, chart or table to explain your answers. Focus your reading and preparation on the material below:

1.     Recent Data/Hsc 411B Click on Recent data. Read Units  2, 3 and 4 links  (through chapter
9. Exam 2 does not include chapter 10.

2.     Click on STD/CDC as additional summary for chapter nine

3.     Read the summary ÒTeens and Oral SexÓ Link Report/Oral Sex (Journal of Pediatric Psychology)

4.     Discuss the major epidemic of obesity in America related to adults and teens.

5.     Review recent update on HPV vaccine, chapter 9.

6.     Exam also covers lectures, guest speakers, handouts, charts, etc.

7.     List signs and symptoms, methods for prevention of teen suicide. See the APPROACH System
in Chapter 8, Matza.

8.     Review the medical problems associated with alcohol abuse in teens,
women and list methods for prevention.

9.     Clarify the difference between FAS, FAE and FASD.

10.Review the special health requirements for students with disabilities.

11.Classify common abusive drugs (stimulants, depressants, hallucinogens, inhalants)
and compare and contrast medical problems of each. Chapters 4 & 8.

12.Compare and contrast common STDs as listed in the table at the end of chapter 9.

13.Classify and discuss examples of micronutrients and macronutrients as it relates to adolescent health.

14.Read the new nutrition law effective July, 2007. EC 49430-49433

15.Discuss the social and educational problems related to teen pregnancy

16.List the medical, psychological and physical problems of marijuana abuse related to teens.

17.Define and explain Acanthosis nigricans.

18.Clarify the guidelines for schools re universal precautions. Click on

19.Review the latest data on circumcision and STD infection (Chapter 9).

20.List practical tips for good nutrition by Matza. (Chapter 8).
